Sarwan batted at six but helped his side secure an easy victory |
Ramnaresh Sarwan hit 49 not out as West Indies beat Bermuda by six wickets to book their place in the final of the tri-series in King City, Canada. The stand-in skipper hit five fours and a six as they reached their target of 159 with more than 18 overs to spare. Chris Douglas had top-scored with 53 off 105 balls for Bermuda as they laboured to 158-9 from their 50 overs. The Windies will now face Canada in Friday's last group game - with both sides already in Sunday's final. Sarwan chose to field first after winning the toss, despite being without pace bowler Fidel Edwards, who pulled up in the nets after suffering a back strain - while the Windies handed debuts to batsman Leon Johnson and Australian-born all-rounder Brendan Nash. | 606: DEBATE | Any hopes Bermuda may have had of a shock victory faded as wickets steadily fell, with miserly slow left-armer Nikita Miller taking 3-19. Douglas finally found a useful partner in portly spinner Dwayne Leverock, who finished with 20 not out from 60 balls and helped push the target towards respectability. In reply, the West Indies lost openers Xavier Marshall and Sewnarine Chattergoon cheaply, but Johnson (27), Shawn Findlay (41), Nash (27 not out) and Sarwan, batting at six, saw them home comfortably. Leverock's 10 wicketless overs yielded just 31 runs, but the burly 37-year-old did take a superb diving catch to dismiss Johnson. Canada beat Bermuda by 25 runs in the first group game on Monday.
