Tour match, Uxbridge, day two: South Africa 359-5 v Middlesex 311-5 Match scorecard
Prince was in good form for the tourists |
Eoin Morgan hit a whirlwind maiden first-class century for Middlesex to leave the county side 48 runs behind South Africa at Uxbridge. The tourists added 20 runs before declaring on 359-5 when Ashwell Prince was caught behind for 114. Their pace attack then toiled on an unresponsive wicket and Morgan took advantage, hitting 16 fours on his way to an unbeaten 109. Morgan was ably supported by Dawid Malan who made 67. The pair enjoyed a 94-run partnership before Malan edged an attempted drive to slip off the bowling of Prince, who also had Nick Compton stumped for 27. But the dangerous Morgan was still standing at the close of play and he, aside from his flurry of fours, smashed Paul Harris for three sixes. Earlier in the innings, England opener Andrew Strauss (29) shared a 52-run opening stand before he was caught behind off Morne Morkel. At the start of the day, Prince and AB de Villiers continued the South Africa innings with little urgency, scoring just 20 runs on 8.3 overs before Prince's dismissal brought about a declaration. The all-rounder's knock came to an end when man-of-the-day Morgan took a superb catch at point off the bowling of Danny Evans.
