Cambridgeshire have won their first Minor Counties Championship match of the season, beating Hertfordshire by 139 runs in Bishop Stortford. Cambs captain Gary Freear said he was particularly pleased with his bowlers. "It's one of the most balanced attacks Cambs have had for a long time, and it's a young attack which bodes well," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. "You've got [Ajaz] Akhtar and [Andy] Clarke as the experience and three younger players." Freear was also pleased with his batsmen, and added: "Tom Harvey got 91 and then the rest of us chipped in with thirties and forties which, on a wicket which was a little damp in the first innings, all adds up to a pretty good total. | I don't think there'll be many changes but maybe one or two Cambs captain Gary Freear |
"We bat an awfully long way down, and with the likes of Andy Clarke batting at nine, who has scored first-class fifties, it makes a big difference that he can come in and take a game away in the short space of time." Cambs are next in action against Berkshire at Newbury on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the Minor Counties Trophy. Freear admitted team changes were possible, but said: "I've got to sit down and have a chat with Keith [Coburn], the manager, and Simon Kellett, the vice-captain, and we'll have a look. "I don't think there'll be many changes but maybe one or two."
