Wellington crash to heavy defeat

cricket ball

Wellington failed to make 100 runs for the third game in a row in Birmingham & District League Division One as Shrewsbury stormed to a 10-wicket win.

Shrewsbury's Reece O'Connell (5-29) and Jack Shantry (4-41) skittled neighbours Wellington out for 90 as Shantry's 41 not out sealed the victory.

In the Premier Division, Shifnal lost at Kenilworth Wardens, as Martyn Davies (57) led his side to 201-8.

In reply, the Warwickshire outfit eased to victory by seven wickets.

Division Two side Newport mustered 215-7 with solid contributions from Priyadarshand Rasike (73) and David Nock (71) but Tamworth were left to hold on for a losing draw after reaching 183-9. But the draw leaves the Shropshire side in the bottom two in the table.

One time Warwickshire batsman Dominic Ostler was the main contributor for Berkswell who limped to 123 all out against St. Georges. Hitshu Bachandi's took six wickets but the Dragons failed to build any partnerships and were bowled out for 92.

In Division Three, Whitchurch dominated proceedings after Maisam Hasnain missed out the chance of scoring a rare double century against Bablake. He was dismissed for 197 in Whitchurch's 323. Ijaz Youssuf (4-13) helped to bowl out the visitors for just 102.

Oswestry prop up the league after failing to build on their first win in the Birmingham & District League, reaching 129. Fellow newcomers Lichfield, who were promoted from the Staffordshire League, scored (132-3) to win by seven wickets.

It was a disappointing weekend for Bridgnorth despite runs from Tom Whitney (59) and Andy Unitt (46) took the Shropshire men to 211 against Wombourne. But the Wolverhampton-based side eased to a seven-wicket victory.
