Norwich batsman Ben Patston 22, has been called up by Norfolk to play in the Minor Counties Championship opener against Northumberland.

Patston played top-level Rugby at Northampton Saints before moving to National League side Bedford.

Patston told BBC Radio Norfolk about the similarities between the two games.

"Obviously the fitness side of things are similar, running between the wickets in cricket and bursts of speed in rugby are the aspects I work on."

The multi-talented youngster who went to school at Wymondham college now opens the batting for East Anglian Premier League side Norwich.

Norfolk play Northumberland in a three day match in Jesmond this weekend.
