Norfolk book quarter-final place

Carl Rogers has led Norfolk to the last eight of the MCCA Knock-Out

Norfolk's cricketers have moved to within two wins of a Lord's final after a tense five-run MCCA Trophy victory.

They beat Northumberland at Morpeth with two balls to spare thanks to four wickets each for Chris Brown and Mark Thomas and a last-over run-out.

Norfolk were dismissed for 227, thanks to 76 from Stephen Gray and Darren Robinson's 64.

But they then bowled the home side out for 222, Norfolk captain Carl Rogers admitting: "My team kept their nerve."

Norfolk are through to the quarter-finals having guaranteed a top two finish in Group Two. But they do not know whether they will be at home or away as the rest of their group still have a game to play next weekend when Hertfordshire host Northumberland and Staffordshire go to Suffolk.

Norfolk have won the MCCA Trophy three times in the last 10 years, their last success having come in 2005.
