Suffolk won a last-over thriller to keep alive their hopes of qualification for the semi-finals of the Minor Counties knockout competition. They successfully chased a total of 275 to win with four balls to spare. Suffolk stand-in captain Justin Bishop told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It was a good run chase on a good batting track with a fast outfield." However, Suffolk must still rely on other results going in their favour to qualify for the last four. The home side won the toss and had 50 on the board in the first seven overs, but a fine spell by spinner Chris Swallow pegged them back. Andrew McGarry came back with wickets off consecutive balls and despite 70s from Simon Gale and Ben Frazer, Suffolk were reasonably pleased to limit Herts to 274 for 7. Suffolk's reply began well with Andy Mawson and Tom Huggins putting together an opening stand of 164 in 32 overs. Mawson went for 84 and Huggins soon followed for 83. Bishop promoted himself in the order and a quickfire 31 helped set up the win. Wickets tumbled and the required run-rate rose but Simon Rees, on his debut, hit the winning boundary with four balls and three wickets left. Bishop said: "We knew that if we got off to a good start and kept wickets in hand we could win. "We must keep believing that if we can win our last game, other results can go in our favour and we can get through." That last game is against Staffordshire at Mildenhall on Sunday 1 June, but with other games taking place before then, qualification may already be out of Suffolk's reach.
