Berkshire slip to Cornish defeat

Steve Naylor
After a flurry of boundaries, Naylor's dismissal spelt the end for Berkshire.

Berkshire need to beat Devon on Sunday to keep their hopes of winning the MCCA Trophy alive after defeat at Cornwall.

Rain reduced the game to 40 overs a side and having won the toss, Berkshire put the home side in and restricted them to 207 for 6.

Steve Naylor was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets before withdrawing due to injury.

In reply Berkshire were all out for 178 and lost by 29 runs, with Naylor the last man out.

Berkshire Coach Tim Dellor told BBC Radio Berkshire the defeat would be the "wake-up call" the team needed.

"I don't think there's any doubt about the quality of this team but we need to show this with some good results," he said.

"We're still in a position where we can qualify for the knock-out stages but the defeat was very disappointing."

Berkshire now need to beat either Devon on Sunday 11 May at Falkland Cricket Club or Wiltshire the following weekend at Trowbridge, to qualify for the quarter-finals.
