Justin Bishop top scored for Suffolk with an unbeaten 40

Defending champions Suffolk were beaten by Northumberland in their opening game of this season's Minor Counties Knockout Trophy.

On a rain-affected day in Gosforth the match was reduced to 33 overs per side, with Suffolk posting 175-7.

But with Northumberland 110-2 off 16 overs in reply, rain brought play to a premature end which meant the home side won courtesy of a faster scoring rate.

Suffolk's next group game is at home to East Anglian rivals Norfolk on Sunday.
