Ryan Watson lead the Scots to two world cups in 2007 |
Scottish Cricket has announced a record turnover of nearly 1.8m for the last financial year. Despite increased costs from competing in two world cups the organisation also made a 40,000 surplus. Much of the rise came from the rained-off international between India and Pakistan due to be staged in Glasgow last summer. "This shows the progress of the Scottish game across all fronts," said Roddy Smith of Cricket Scotland. The healthy figures are despite increased outlay of over 360,000 from competing on several fronts in 2007. Scotland's cricketers took part in the World Cup in the West Indies as well as in the inaugural Twenty20 tournament in South Africa. Scotland's A team also played for the first time in the English County 2nd XI Championship. Keith Oliver, chairman of Scottish Cricket Limited was satisfied with the latest accounts. "It was a helter-skelter year for us at all levels, so we must be pleased to have emerged with financial credit," he said. "But we need to continue to make annual surpluses if we are to build up our reserves to a sensible level in relation to our turnover."
