Sehwag has 12 Test centuries at an average of almost 50

Sehwag capitalised on a flat pitch to reach 100 in 73 balls, and hit 18 fours and two sixes in his 113, sharing 158 in 26 overs with Dinesh Karthik (97).

Yuvraj Singh made only three as India declared on 281-4 to set a target of 315 and Pankaj Singh took 2-21 in 60-3.

India now head to Perth for the third Test, scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The tourists have agreed to continue the Test series, even if Harbhajan Singh's three-match suspension for an alleged racist remark towards Andrew Symonds is not overturned.

A date has yet to be confirmed for Harbhajan's case, which will be heard by New Zealand High Court judge John Hansen.

Meanwhile, Australian spinner Brad Hogg's code of conduct hearing for an abusive remark at India captain Anil Kumble will be heard in Perth on Monday.

Kumble and counterpart Ricky Ponting have both expressed a wish to meet before the Perth Test in a bid to calm the tension between the teams.

On the field, Sehwag did his chances of a recall no harm at all with an attractive innings, firing three boundaries in the first over.

"I just focused on being positive and wanted to perform well. I feel I am in good touch and timing the ball very well," the 29-year-old enthused.

Sehwag, who played the last of his 52 Tests in South Africa in January 2007, brought up his century by flicking a ball to the fine-leg boundary, and then smashed a four and six from the final two deliveries of the over.

"I have got my rhythm back. I have got everything back," he said.

He is certain to put pressure on Yuvraj, who made only five runs in this match and has contributed a mere 17 in the opening two Tests.

Sehwag appeared to be optimistic of a recall at the WACA.

"I think the Perth wicket is good for me and good for batsmen because the ball comes on with pace and bounce so you can play your shots," he said. "I'm pretty confident so hopefully I'll do well."
