England were awarded the match after Pakistan refused to play in protest over umpire Darrell Hair's decision to penalise them for ball-tampering.

Pakistan were subsequently cleared of ball-tampering by an ICC tribunal.

And the country's cricket board wants the result changed to "match abandoned" or "match drawn".

Though the PCB is not saying anything through an official spokesman, an unnamed PCB official explained its case to various sources on Friday.

He said: "We have made the application to the ICC and hope for a favourable result at the next cricket committee meeting in May.

"The good thing is that England supported our plea and the matter has been discussed at the executive board meeting of the ICC."

Pakistan blamed Hair for the outcome of the match, with Inzamam-ul-Haq's team refusing to take the field after tea on day four.

The 2006 series officially ended 3-0 to England, under the captaincy of Andrew Strauss. The Oval Test remains the only forfeited result in Test history.

In the aftermath of the match, Hair, who is Australian, was dropped from the ICC's elite umpiring panel, and took them to an industrial tribunal, alleging racial discrimination.

But after a week of evidence, the case collapsed and the allegation was withdrawn, with no financial pay-off being made.
