First one-day international, Auckland: New Zealand 203-4 beat Bangladesh 201 by six wickets How hit five fours and a six |
New Zealand eased to a six-wicket win over Bangladesh at Auckland's Eden Park in the opening one-day international of the three-match series.
Bangladesh, sent in to bat first, were all out for 201 in the 47th over.
Skipper Mohammad Ashraful top-scored with 70 and Tamim Iqbal made 50 but New Zealand's four seamers bowled well.
The Black Caps reached the required 202, for the loss of four wickets, in the 43rd over, with opener Jamie How making 89 and Brendon McCullum 40.
Ashraful produced the brightest batting of the match, hitting 10 fours and a six from 57 balls faced.
But a middle-order collapse robbed Bangladesh of the runs they needed to put any sort of pressure onj the hosts.
After How and McCullum had put on 90 in the first 19 overs, it was an easy stroll to a victory sealed with a no-nonsense Scott Styris six over long-on.
