Asif has been troubled by elbow problems in the past year |
Pakistan's Mohammad Asif is doubtful for the start of the five-match one-day series against South Africa after injuring his elbow in the final Test. The seamer managed only four overs in the Proteas' second innings and a scan revealed inflammation.
He has been told to rest until the first game on 18 October making him a doubt for that.
"He has been advised to not bowl for a week by the doctors but he can train," Pakistan manager Talat Ali said.
"It depends on his progress and how quickly the injury heals."
Asif has suffered from elbow problems since last year, forcing him to miss the Test series in England and the World Cup earlier this year.
Pakistan, who are facing defeat in the Test series, are also set to be without another paceman, Shoaib Akhtar.
Shoaib has been suspended indefinitely by the Pakistan Cricket Board after being sent home from last month's World Twenty20 for hitting Asif with a bat.
