Collingwood pleaded mitigating circumstances for ther delay |
Captain Paul Collingwood has been fined 50% of his match fee, an estimated 1,250, for England's slow over rate in the one-day defeat by India in Bristol. The fine was the minimum allowed for the offence under ICC rules, and he could have faced a two-match ban.
England were three overs short of their target in the day-night match, which the tourists won by nine runs to level the best-of-seven series at 1-1.
The rest of the team were fined 15% by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
Speaking after the match, Collingwood insisted there were mitigating circumstances for the prolonged innings, including trouble with a sightscreen during the early stages.
There was also a delay when Sachin Tendulkar received treatment for cramp in his left hand during his sparkling innings of 99.
"The nature of the innings with so many boundaries being scored and with various stoppages for one thing or another was always going to mean that the innings was going to be longer than usual," said Collingwood.
"Ultimately, however, it didn't seem to detract from what was a fantastic game of cricket."
