Australian legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath could be the latest big names to sign up for the breakaway Indian Cricket League. The veteran bowlers, with 1,271 Test wickets between them, have retired from international cricket but may feature if financial issues are resolved.
"They haven't offered what we asked for, so negotiations are proceeding," Warne's manager James Erskine said.
The six-team league will comprise Twenty20 matches across India.
Warne, 37, who retired from Test cricket after the Ashes, has continued playing county cricket in England but opted to miss Hampshire's Twenty20 campaign.
Erskine added: "If terms and conditions are right, he will play. But it's a long way off before we get the contract signed."
McGrath, also 37, played in the World Cup in the Caribbean before leaving the international stage.
His manager, Warren Craig, confirmed that talks had taken place but that salaries had not been discussed.
"They haven't given us any indication," he said. "Now [Brian] Lara has signed, things might start to hot up a bit. Things could start to move over the next week or so."
