World Cup Group D, Jamaica: Ireland v West Indies Porterfield was dismissed for a duck in the second over |
Captain Kyle McCallan said his Ireland side had not scored enough runs in their eight-wicket loss to West Indies. Ireland, who had already qualified for the Super 8s, were restricted to 183-8 off 48 overs in their Group D decider.
He said: "We're a bit disappointed with how we batted in the middle overs and were a few runs short but there's no disgrace in losing to the West Indies.
"You only get better by playing better teams so we're going to work very hard and hope we can spring a surprise."
And McCallan, who took over the captaincy after Trent Johnston was ruled out because of injury, said the team's performance in their first World Cup had delighted the nation.
"Ireland is now jumping and buzzing with cricket so as far as we're concerned, that's half our job done being at the World Cup," he said.
