Fleming and Jeetan Patel celebrate another England wicket |
New Zealand all but made the CB Series finals by beating England on Tuesday. But skipper Stephen Fleming now wants to overcome unbeaten host nation Australia after coming close in their first match in Perth last Friday.
"Our prospects have been enhanced but we'd love to beat Australia, not just to cement a finals spot, but also to get some good momentum," he said.
"There are a couple of games to go, and we should be good enough to get to the finals," said the left-handed batsman.
Jacob Oram bruised ribs while taking a catch in the deep, but is expected to be fit for Sunday's match against Australia.
New Zealand's constantly changing squad will welcome Scott Styris when they arrive in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Styris joins Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram and Lou Vincent as late additions to the squad following recoveries from injury and the retirement of Nathan Astle.
Hamish Marshall has been dropped from the squad and will return to New Zealand on Wednesday. He played only one match in the series, making a duck.
