Gambhir will be hoping to get a chance in the Test at Kingsmead |
Gautam Gambhir hit a confident 79 on the same day under-pressure Test opener Wasim Jaffer carded another failure in India's tour match in Durban. Jaffer had two single-figure scores in India's victory in the first Test, and four days before the second Test begins he was caught in the slips for two.
By contrast, Gambhir retired after facing 101 balls at Northwood.
Half-way through the two-day match against KwaZulu-Natal Invitational XI, India were 271-6.
Virender Sehwag hit a quick 40 and Rahul Dravid made 38 before retiring but VVS Laxman failed on a day when bad weather allowed for just 77 overs.
Sourav Ganguly hit an unbeaten 41 while Sachin Tendulkar was rested.
