Pakistan win limited-overs series
Fifth one-day international, Karachi: Pakistan 239-3 bt West Indies 238-7 by 7 wkts

Mohammad Hafeez congratulates Rana Naved
Naved's wickets helped restrict the West Indies to 238-7
Mohammad Hafeez hit 92 as Pakistan beat West Indies by seven wickets in Karachi to seal a 3-1 one-day series success.

Hafeez struck five fours and two sixes to inspire the victory without Mohammad Yousuf and Inzamam needing to bat.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul had posted his fourth one-day ton but the West Indies total of 238-7 looked below par, Rana Naved restricting them with 4-43.

Kamran Akmal hammered 56 in 59 balls as Pakistan raced to 87 from 16 overs and eventually won with 19 deliveries left.

Hunting a win to square the series, the World Cup hosts were put in and opener Chanderpaul hit 101 off 142 balls.

Naved, named man of the series for his 11 wickets, checked the mid-innings progress with 4-43, while Brian Lara's 44 took him past 10,000 career runs.

Sixteen runs came off the final over, bowled by Naved, even though the first ball ended the innings of Dwayne Smith.

Chanderpaul's century was his first in one-day internationals since 2002 and was particularly necessary after Chris Gayle was trapped by Naved for seven.

Although far from his best, with only three boundaries in his 44, Lara helped Chanderpaul add 96 from 108 balls before he too fell victim to Naved.

Trying to accelerate the scoring with an expansive swipe, Lara was bowled by Naved when the ball deflected off his pads.

The Sussex seamer then added Chanderpaul to his collection, courtesy of a catch at deep mid-wicket in the 48th over.

Pakistan's initial required run-rate of less than five an over was soon reduced further by Akmal, who smashed nine fours and a huge straight six off Daren Powell before he was another player to be caught at deep mid-wicket.

Hafeez then shared 89 from 117 balls with Yasir Hameed, who was caught at long-on for 41.

But eight runs away from his maiden century, and with his team only 15 from victory, Hafeez was trapped lbw by the persistent Dave Mohammed.

"We were beaten by a better team, but we played some good cricket throughout the series," said Lara, who is expected to retire from the one-day game after the World Cup.

"We didn't put enough runs on the board in this game and it made the difference. We've got a good team and we've got to mould a winning team."

Inzamam, who suffered a cut finger in the third match that required three stitches and kept him out of the following game, was pleased with his side's display.

"We really worked hard and the credit goes to the whole team for victory in the series," he said.
