Second Test, Multan, day one (close): Pakistan 263-4 v West Indies
The dismissal of Yousuf before stumps was a blow for Pakistan |
West Indies struck twice in the final session to halt Pakistan's progress on day one of the second Test in Multan.
The hosts, who won the first match in Lahore, were on course for a huge total after Imran Farhat had struck 74.
But Younis Khan and the prolific Mohammad Yousuf fell for 56, although captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was still there at stumps on 31 in a score of 263-4.
Jerome Taylor (2-61) was the most successful bowler on a docile pitch offering minimal help to the pacemen.
It was no surprise when Inzamam opted to bat on his home ground after winning the toss and his unchanged team were soon off to a good start.
Mohammad Hafeez looked fluent on both sides of the wicket as he hit seven boundaries and it took a loose shot against Taylor to bring about his downfall, wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin taking the catch.

Fellow opener Farhat also looked good but after stroking 10 fours he chased a wide ball from Dwayne Bravo and edged chest high to Brian Lara at second slip.
Yousuf, who made 192 in Lahore, struck the ball with precision and fluency, and looked on course to add to his six Test centuries this year.
But after being dropped on 45 by Daren Ganga at gully off Taylor he drove spinner Chris Gayle straight to Lara at short mid-on.
That came after Younis was caught at gully by Runako Morton off Taylor and the tourists will be pleased with the way the day ended.
They dropped out-of-sorts batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and paceman Fidel Edwards, bringing in Morton and Daren Powell, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul became the eighth West Indian to play in 100 Test matches.
