The 37-year-old Surrey batsman scored 2,278 first-class runs during the season at an average of 103.54.

"You work hard every year but sometimes things do just click and this was a good year," Ramprakash commented.

England and Essex batsman Alastair Cook, 21, was named Young Player of the Year for the second successive season.

And he gave a declaration of intent for the Test series against Australia this winter by saying: "Bring it on. I am sure we can bring the Ashes home."

Cook made his Test debut on the tour to India earlier this year and joined an elite list of 15 England players to mark the occasion with a century.

The left-hander has now made nine Test appearances, scoring 761 runs at an average of 54, including two further centuries.

He won the Young Player vote ahead of England team-mate Monty Panesar, fast bowler Stuart Broad and wicket-keeper/batsman Steven Davies.
