Eoin Morgan will miss Ireland's first ever official ODI |
Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan has been withdrawn from the Ireland squad to face England in Tuesday's one-day international at Stormont. The Irish Cricket Union said it was in Morgan's "best interest" as a young cricketer to be playing for the county rather than the England match.
William Porterfield has been called up as Morgan's replacement.
Wicket-keeper Niall O'Brien will also miss the game as he is required by Kent to cover for England's Geraint Jones.
O'Brien would have been added to the Irish panel if had he been released by his county.
England are the only Test nation the Irish have not played and the Belfast match is close to being a sell-out.
The Ireland squad includes most of the players who have successfully qualified for the 2007 World Cup, which is being staged in the West Indies.
It features batsman Dominick Joyce, whose older brother Ed toured the West Indies with England A earlier this year.
Ireland, who have won one game and lost six in their inaugural season in county cricket's C&G Trophy, have been given full ODI status in the run-up to the World Cup.
One-day internationals against fellow World Cup qualifiers Scotland and the Netherlands follow in August.
