Essex stalwart Doug Insole has been named as the new president of the MCC, succeeding Robin Marlar on 1 October. Insole's Essex career spanned 450 first-class matches, yielding over 25,000 runs and more than 50 centuries and brought him nine Test caps.
He served as a Test selector for 10 years and managed England's tours to Australia in 1978-79 and 1982-83.
"Doug Insole has made an enormous contribution on and off the pitch, over many years," said an MCC statement.
Insole was awarded a CBE in 1979 for his services to cricket and was a member of the MCC committee for over 30 years.
