One-day international, Abu Dhabi: Pakistan 201-4 (48.3 overs) beat India 197 (50 overs) by six wickets

An unbeaten 71 from Younis Khan steered Pakistan to a six-wicket win over India in their one-day clash in Abu Dhabi.

India made just 197 at the brand new venue in the United Arab Emirates, Venugopal Rao hitting 61 not out off 93 balls as spinner Shaib Malik took 3-40.

Rao shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 64 with rising star Suresh Raina, but only two other batsmen reached 20.

In reply, Pakistan made a steady start before Younis and Inzamam ul-Haq teamed up for a third-wicket stand of 86.

The partnership had reached 146 before Inzamam fell for 40, caught by Rao at long-on off the bowling of Romesh Powar.

Mohammad Yousuf went soon afterwards after making just a single, but Younis finished the match in the company of wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal (24 not out).

The game is the first of two to be played at the 16,000-capacity Zayad Cricket Stadium. The second is on Wednesday.

Proceeds from the first match will be donated to survivors of the earthquake that rocked Kashmir last October, killing more than 74,000 people.

"We were 30 runs short on that wicket," said Indian skipper Rahul Dravid after choosing to bat first after winning the toss.

"I still think it was the right decision to bat first, we just didn't bat well enough, and the run outs didn't help."

India lost several early wickets. Robin Uthappa fell to Rana Naved for 12 while Dravid (20) and Irfan Pathan (26) were both run out.

When Yuvraj Singh edged a ball from Rao Iftikhar to the keeper after making only seven, India were 72-4.

Rao and Raina did their best to rebuild the innings but, after Raina was caught off Shahid Afridi, the lower order fell away.

Big-hitting Mahenda Dhoni was bowled for three by Malik, who also accounted for Agarkar and Ramesh Powar.

The innings ended in total confusion when Harbhajan Singh and Sri Sreesanth were run out off the final two balls.
