Bowling trio put Aussies on top
Second Test, Chittagong, day one (close): Bangladesh 197 v Australia 76-1

Jason Gillespie celebrates the dismissal of Bangladesh's Javed Omar

Australia's spinners built on Jason Gillespie's early good work to bowl Bangladesh out for 197 on the first day of the second Test in Chittagong.

Gillespie took 3-11 off five overs to leave the hosts on 17-3 before Bangladesh staged a partial recovery.

But Stuart MacGill and Shane Warne weighed in with three wickets apiece, Rajin Saleh offering the only major resistance with a knock of 71.

Australia reached 76-1 in reply by the close, Matthew Hayden going for 29.

Phil Jacques, who came into the side for the injured Damien Martyn, was unbeaten on 38, with nightwatchman Gillespie also at the crease.

Having survived a huge scare before winning the first Test, Australia wasted no time asserting themselves in Chittagong as Bangladesh lost their first wicket without a run on the board.

Gillespie struck in his first over when first-Test centurion Shahriar Nafees played a loose shot and was caught by Brett Lee at deep fine leg.

The veteran paceman then had captain Habibul Bashar caught at point for nine before trapping Javed Omar lbw for two.

The spinners then took over with Saleh, who guided the hosts to 67-4 at lunch, becoming the first of MacGill's victims in the afternoon session.

MacGill (3-68) also accounted for Mohammad Rafique (19) and Abdur Razzak (15), while debutant off-spinner Daniel Cullen claimed Mashrafe Mortaza as his maiden Test wicket.

Warne, who defied a shoulder injury to play, wrapped up the innnings, claiming the wicket of Shahadat Hossain to finish with 3-47.

Australia were cruising in reply before Mohammad Rafique had Hayden caught for 29 with the score on 67.

But the tourists will expect to establish a sizeable first-innings lead on day two as they look to seal a 2-0 series victory.
