Aggressive tactics topple Proteas

Jacques Kallis said Australia's tactic of playing attacking cricket on the final morning of the tense Johannesburg Test had paid off for the tourists.

The stand-in South Africa captain was pleased to see the back of Damien Martyn quickly, but the team needed three more wickets and just took one.

Kallis said: "We had to strike early with the second new ball which we did.

"But unfortunately Australia played aggressively and took their chances. They have played well throughout."

Kallis, who had to step into the captaincy role when Graeme Smith succumbed to a hand injury, said luck had not favoured the hosts during the series, which Australia won 3-0.

He said: "Australia have put us under pressure and eventually we've cracked.

"But against Australia you need things to go your way and it didn't happen. They have outplayed us.

"It's been a tough season but we have a new challenge coming up in a few weeks time against New Zealand.

"Hopefully the guys will be up for that and some new challenges, hopefully the crowds will come for that and hopefully we can give them some good cricket."
