 Shahid Afridi's signing boosts Ireland's 2006 C&G campaign |
Ireland's 2006 C&G Trophy prospects have been boosted by the signing of Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi. The news comes a day after another Pakistani, Abdul Razzaq, pulled out of playing for Ireland.
Afridi has played in 23 Tests, scoring 1620 runs at an average of 39.51, including successive centuries in the recent series against India.
He has experience of UK conditions, having helped Leicestershire to the final of the C&G Trophy in 2001.
Afridi is the current holder of the fastest hundred in one day internationals, taking just 37 balls in his maiden innings against Sri Lanka, a knock which included 11 sixes.
He will join his fellow countryman, Saqlain Mushtaq, in the Ireland set-up in time for Ireland's opening C&G tie against Hampshire at Clontarf on 23 April.
