Dravid faces up to the press in the West Indies |
India have arrived in the Caribbean for their tour of West Indies, with captain Rahul Dravid confident of victory. Although they have won only three of 38 Tests in the West Indies, the home side's steady decline will see India start as favourites for the series.
"We know it's a challenge here," Dravid said. "They are a good team and it's always tough to come and beat them.
"They have a serious batting side and good young pacemen." On Tuesday the team play a practice game with Jamaica.
A five-match one-day series beginning on 18 May will precede the four Tests and Dravid is hopeful of adding to limited-over series victories against England and Pakistan this year.
"We've had some success recently and we're looking for a good start," Dravid said.
"We are not going to worry about history, we're just going to look at the series as a fresh one and try and do the best we can."
West Indies, under another Brian Lara regime, will be looking to improve on an abject Test record this year.
They lost all three matches in Australia and two out of three in New Zealand.
In the one-day game they were thrashed 4-1 in New Zealand but gained some confidence under Lara with a 4-0 success at home against lowly Zimbabwe.
