Nathan Astle's smile is back |
Nathan Astle said he felt good about his contributions in the one-day series against West Indies after coming back from being dropped by the selectors. New Zealand had omitted Astle twice earlier in the season but he responded with knocks of 90 and 118 not out.
Those innings proved crucial in giving New Zealand an unassailable 3-0 lead.
Astle said: "Getting dropped and coming back and proving yourself is what international cricket's all about. I suppose on that front it's very nice."
New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming was happy with his team's overall performance on Saturday in Christchurch.
The hosts hit 276-5 before bowling out West Indies for 255.
Fleming said: "We're pretty happy, it was a good peformance.
"We felt good defending that score. It did get quite close, but it confirmed we are on track in defending scores."
