Bandara was in superb form at the Bellerive Oval |
Coach Tom Moody has tipped leg-spinner Malinga Bandara to become a star for his country after he helped Sri Lanka clinch a place in the VB Series finals. Bandara took 4-31 after coming on as a super-sub to spin South Africa to a 76-run defeat in Hobart.
"He's bowled well all series and particularly well today.
"Malinga's a much-improving young bowler and Sri Lanka hopefully have got a good one up their sleeve there," Moody said of the 26-year-old.
"We opted to add depth to the bowling. We were fortunate enough to win the toss and be able to do that."
Sri Lanka now take on hosts Australia, who finished 13 points ahead of them in the group stage, in the best-of-three finale.
The first match takes place in Adelaide on Friday and Moody believes his team can surprise the favourites.
"We can certainly give them a run for their money, there's no doubt about that," the Australian added.
"It's nice to get a win under out belts and this was a lot better performance from us all-round."
