Ireland's Fintan McAllister stumps Zimbabwe's Friday Katseni |
Scotland and Ireland both suffered defeats on the opening day of the Under-19 World Cup but the Scots at least made hosts Sri Lanka sweat. Chasing 187 to win, Sri Lanka crashed to 54-4 after Gordon Goudie took 3-25, but they limped home by four wickets.
Ireland were less successful as Zimbabwe bowled them out for 97, pace bowler Keagan Meth taking 3-15, to complete a 118-run victory.
England, also in Group D, play their first game against Nepal on Monday.
Elsewhere Bangladesh, one of the favourites, beat New Zealand by three wickets after Mehrab Hossain took 4-29.
And Australia copied their senior side by thrashing South Africa, Tom Cooper scoring the first century of the tournament for a 175-run verdict.
