Inzamam has now been advised to protect his back injury |
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq plans to pick and choose which matches he plays in the future in order to protect a persistent back problem. The 35-year-old batsman sat out the decisive third Test against India and also missed the last three days of the second Test in Faisalabad.
"It is not a career threatening problem but it does become a nuisance if not taken proper care of," Inzamam said.
"In future, I will try to sit out on matches where possible."
Inzamam, only the second Pakistani to hit 8,000 Test runs, has been dogged by back problems and missed the last two Tests on the tour to Australia in 2004-5.
Doctors have already advised him not to take long flights to avoid a recurrence of the injury.
Now, Inzamam intends to stay on the sidelines for less important matches to try and prolong his career until the 2007 World Cup.
"I plan to sit out Test and one-day matches where nothing much is at stake," said Inzamam.
"Then I can take a rest in order to preserve myself for the more important games.
"If we have won a series, I can rest in the final games and it gives us a chance to blood young players."
Inzamam, however, is confident he will be fit for the one-dayers against India which start in Peshawar next Monday.
