England and Scotland are among 13 countries to have shown an interest in staging a Twenty20 World Championship. International Cricket Council chief executive Malcolm Speed said the widespread interest was encouraging.
The Australian said: "For 18 months the ICC have been consistently reviewing the role that Twenty20 cricket could play internationally.
"This response indicates there is strong interest from many parts of the cricket world in this type of event."
The ICC board will consider the concept when it meets in Dubai in
March.
Twenty20 was launched as a sideshow in English county cricket to help boost crowd numbers in 2003.
Many countries have now played Twenty20 internationals and the concept has garnered massive support wherever it has been played.
Of current Test nations, only India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have said they would not be willing to stage a World Championship.
