First Test, Lahore, day three (stumps)
Pakistan 679-7d; India 145-0
Dravid and Sehwag have had few problems so far on a good pitch |
Just 15 overs were possible on the third day of the Lahore Test between India and Pakistan, with bad light and rain intervening throughout. India added 80 to their overnight score to close on 145-0, replying to a total of 679-7 declared by the hosts.
Virender Sehwag timed the ball superbly to move to within four runs of an 11th Test ton, while captain Rahul Dravid has hit a more circumspect score of 37.
India are on course to reach their target of 480 to avoid the follow-on.
The day was hugely frustrating for players and supporters alike.
The overcast conditions delayed the start by 45 minutes and halted proceedings again after only an hour's play.
And there were just three overs available in the afternoon before the umpires called off play for the day at 1020 GMT (1550 local time).
Despite India's solid start on Saturday, Pakistan still harboured hopes of putting more pressure on them after piling up their massive score on the first two days.
But even though Shoaib Akhtar and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan worked up some good pace it posed few problems for the openers on a lifeless surface which has offered little turn for leg-spinner Danish Kaneria.
Dravid, as is his wont, was patient and watchful, while Sehwag drove the ball beautifully and had his sights set on a huge score.
The pitch has not deteriorated at all, and is still a batsman's paradise.
