A spectator has been ejected from the Melbourne Cricket Ground during a Test for allegedly for making racist taunts. "A person was evicted yesterday for using racist and offensive language," Melbourne Cricket Club chief executive Stephen Gough told ABC radio.
"I believe this is the first time this has happened at the ground."
Incidents in the Perth Test had led to home captain Ricky Ponting condemning the behaviour of some of the crowd towards the South African players.
The MCC will seek further details of the latest incident, which again occurred in a match against South Africa.
But Victoria police were more careful about describing the language used by the specator and declined to call it racist.
Assistant Commissioner Gary Jamieson said: "The man's removal was because of his behaviour and his language.
"It was direct taunts and insulting swear language against a South African player and that was why he was ejected.''
The Sydney Morning Herald said the outburst had been directed at Andre Nel, a white South Africa player.
Some of the insults were delivered in Afrikaans.
According to reports following the Perth Test, the players were taunted with the terms 'kaffirs' and 'kaffir boeties', derogatory terms for black people and those sympathetic to them.
