Langer is set for another spell out |
Australia opener Justin Langer will miss the second Test against South Africa on Boxing Day after suffering a hamstring injury on day three in Perth. Langer, 35, needed a runner after lunch and could also sit out the third Test in Sydney, which starts on 2 January.
Physio Errol Alcott rated his chances of playing at the SCG as only "50-50".
New South Wales opener Phil Jaques, 26, could be handed a first call-up, while Michael Clarke may be recalled, which would see Mike Hussey move up to open.
Langer pulled up holding his left thigh shortly before lunch on Sunday at the Waca and batted briefly after the interval with a runner.

He went to hospital after being dismissed and Alcott said: "The scans revealed a strain which will require intensive physiotheraphy.
"He's a healthy athlete and his recovery powers have always been pretty good.
"He's got a definitive strain so it's running the gauntlet a bit if he's going to be right for Sydney but we're going to give it a whirl."
The left-hander missed the first two Tests against the West Indies with a rib injury, ending a sequence of 53 consecutive appearances dating back to August 2001.
Hussey opened against the Windies before being moved down to number five when the Western Australia veteran returned for the third Test.
Jaques - who will play for Worcestershire next season after prolific stints at Northamptonshire and Yorkshire - has made a string of high scores in Australia domestic cricket.
