Malinga pressed his claims for a place in the Test side |
Sri Lanka will go into their two-Test series in New Zealand short of practice after their sole warm-up match was abandoned as a draw. No play was possible on the final two days in Christchurch after the tourists had dismissed a Major Associations XI for 321.
Paceman Lasith Malinga was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, taking 3-57.
The Test series was rescheduled after Sri Lanka abandoned their original tour last December after the Asian tsunami.
And they can at least take consolation from the efforts of their seam attack on the opening day.
Malinga ended Craig McMillan's innings of 121, which included five sixes and 11 fours, and also dismissed Gareth Hopkins and Joseph Yovich.
Ruchira Perera and Farveez Maharoof picked up two wickets each, but spinners Upul Chandana and Rangana Herath both proved expensive.
