Dravid praises youngster Karthik
Dinesh Karthik
India batting star Rahul Dravid praised young wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik after he helped set up a declaration in the second Test against Pakistan.

Karthik was out seven short of a maiden Test ton but put on 165 with Dravid, who scored his second century of the game as India totalled 407-9.

"Dinesh played a great knock. He really stepped up the pace," said Dravid

"It was a crucial stage in the game but under pressure he delivered. It could be the turning point of the game."

Karthik was pleased to help the team effort, despite falling just short of a maiden ton.

"Missing the hundred will hurt, but hopefully I can get one soon," he said.

"I'm not too disappointed because I want to help the team win."

Dravid, who was eventually out for 135, batted for just over six hours in the Calcutta humidity, after spending almost five hours in the middle in the first innings.

If we don't lose wickets we will go for the target
Inzamam-ul-Haq

It was the second time in his Test career that he had scored centuries in both innings and he said: "I was glad I stood up to be counted.

"The conditions were tough, I'd been on the field for a long time right through the game.

"I really started feeling it after lunch but I had to keep going."

Dravid and Karthik helped set a target of 422, which looked unlikely until Shahid Afridi blasted 59 in as many balls before he was out just before the close.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said his side were very much in contention.

"The first session on Sunday will be important," he explained.

"If we don't lose wickets we will go for the target but, yes, all results are possible."

Paceman Mohammad Sami added: "The Test is still open. Afridi was playing well and it (his dismissal) is a blow for us, but hopefully the other batsmen can do it."
