Oram will now target the August tour of Zimbabwe |
New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has been ruled out of the rest of the Australia series and the ensuing Tests against Sri Lanka with injury.
Oram had hoped to overcome a stress reaction to a back injury in time for the Sri Lanka Tests, put back from December due the tsunami disaster.
But team medical staff have advised him to target August's tour of Zimbabwe.
Scott Styris will also miss the final two Australia Tests after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
His availability for the two-Test series against the Sri Lankans will depend on how he recovers.
Styris missed the State Shield play-offs and State of Origin match in New Plymouth a month ago, but returned for the first one-dayer against Australia in Wellington only to suffer a recurrence of the injury.
He sustained the injury in a domestic match in early February when edging a ball onto his knee.
New Zealand lost the first Test against Australia in Christchurch by nine wickets.
The second match of the three-Test series starts in Wellington on Friday, with the Test series against Sri Lanka getting under way in early April.
