(day one, stumps) Zaheer Khan claimed both wickets to fall before lunch |
Zimbabwe's batsmen provided stiff opposition to India's bowlers on the first day of the Bulawayo Test.
The hosts reached 265-7 at stumps with skipper Tatenda Taibu unbeaten on 61 and Terry Duffin hitting 56 on debut.
Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan was the most successful of India's bowlers with 3-68 while Irfan Pathan and Anil Kumble each collected two wickets.
Zimbabwe were 210-7 at one point before rallying under Taibu and Keith Dabengwa, who ended the day with 35.
Zaheer had the first two wickets, Brendan Taylor for 13 and Hamilton Masakadza for 14 before fellow seamer Pathan also claimed two strikes.
His victims were Duffin and Dion Ebrahim, who gave a catch back to the bowler to depart for 24.
After tea, leg-spinner Kumble chipped in with the wickets of Heath Streak and Charles Coventry before Zaheer had Andy Blignaut lbw.
That was the moment for Taibu and Dabengwa to recover the situation for Zimbabwe, though India still look to be on top.
