The Oval to stage tsunami benefit
The Oval
The Oval is sure to be packed when Asia play an International XI
The Oval is to host a Twenty20 match between Asia and an International XI in aid of the tsunami appeal on 20 June.

Surrey County Cricket Club hope to attract a galaxy of international star names to play in the fixture.

Sponsor Brit Insurance has pledged a significant donation and Surrey say all profits will go the appeal fund.

Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon said: "We are delighted to play a small part in helping to rebuild the shattered lives of the victims."

The International Cricket Council organised a match between all-star sides in Melbourne earlier this month, raising 8.7m for the appeal.

Adam Gilchrist, Brian Lara and Shane Warne were among the stars representing the World XI, while the Asian team, who lost by 112 runs, boasted talents including Sanath Jayasuriya, Sourav Ganguly and Muttiah Muralitharan.

A second similar game is to take place in Asia in February.

Calcutta is the propsed venue but the ICC are waiting for a promise of tax exemptions from the Indian government before confirming the details.

"If it's not forthcoming, the match may be played elsewhere in Asia," said ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed, mentioning Lahore, Dhaka and Colombo as possible alternatives.

New Zealand will play three matches in aid of the appeal fund, against a World XI captained by Warne this month.

Four Sri Lankans, one of the worst affected countries in the tsunami tragedy, are included in the World squad, Jayasuriya and Muralitharan, plus Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Sangakkara.
