Hodge was on his way home after Ponting's arrival |
Batsman Brad Hodge has rejoined the Australia squad after Darren Lehmann tore his hamstring in the third Test. Hodge had been heading home but got only as far as Bombay before receiving word of Lehmann's injury.
"When I left the boys yesterday, the last place I expected to be in 24 hours time was Nagpur," said Hodge. Australia hope captain Ricky Ponting will take Lehmann's place in the fourth Test but he has not yet been cleared to make his comeback from a broken thumb.
Lehmann hit 70 on day one in Nagpur but required a runner in the latter stages of his innings.
The left-hander's Test spot had been in doubt after failures in the first two games.
He offered to step aside after Michael Clarke hit 151 on debut in the opening match to make way for Ponting's return.
