The International Cricket Council has named the first dozen members of the awards panel which will vote on cricket's "Oscars" in September. The 50-panel will vote on the world's best players over the previous year.
Members announced on Monday include former England captain Mike Atherton and Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said: "With an esteemed judging Academy we know the process will result in worthy winners."
Seven player-related awards will be presented in two award categories (individual and team) at the gala ceremony to take place on 7 September at Alexandra Palace in London.
