John Dyson
Born: 11/6/54
Position: Coach
Appointed: 14/06/03
A former Test opener, Dyson took over as Sri Lanka coach in July 2003, replacing fellow Aussie Dav Whatmore.

Results were mixed and they suffered a 3-0 home whitewash by Australia earlier this year after being in a good position in each game.

Recently, however, they have looked like the Sri Lanka of old despite the absence of Muttiah Muralitharan.

They beat India to lift the Asia Cup and then defeated South Africa in home Test and one-day series.

Before taking the job, Dyson's experience was limited to assisting Geoff Lawson with New South Wales and coaching at club level.

But he also worked as sports convenor for Sydney's Combined High Schools, with Australian paceman Brett Lee one of his graduates.

He had a respectable Test career, playing 30 Tests between 1977 and 1984 and scoring 1359 runs at 26.64.

Did you know? Dyson has a Master's degree in physical training and sports psychology.
