Fleming is now regarded as the premier captain in international cricket after raising standards in the New Zealand side over the past few years. Spells in England with first Middlesex, then Yorkshire, helped the 31-year-old adapt his batting technique.
He has scored more heavily on a consistent basis since, hitting a career-best 274 not out in a Test series against Sri Lanka last year.
Fleming was recently named New Zealand's cricketer of the year.
He is vastly experienced in the one-day game, having scored over 6,000 runs in 224 internationals at an average of 32.
After a disappointing Test series defeat in England this summer, Fleming guided the Black Caps to victory in the NatWest Series, their third successive victory in a one-day competition.
Did you know? Fleming has led New Zealand to 11 consecutive one-day victories in matches not affected by the weather.
