Stewart is among a number of names linked with Pro Cricket |
Alec Stewart has dismissed claims he is to join a new professional cricket league in America. The former England captain was one of several well-known names announced at the launch of the 20-overs league called Pro Cricket.
"Don't believe everything you read. I was unaware such a league existed or that I was going to join," he said.
Fast bowler Andy Caddick, who is playing county cricket for Somerset, was also among the names mentioned.
Pro Cricket will feature eight teams based in New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Florida, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Texas.
The organisers have claimed 40 professional cricketers from India, Pakistan, Australia West Indies, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya have been signed up.
A warm-up game was played last Saturday in New York, but attracted a poor crowd.
The season proper begins on 2 July with a match between New York Storm and Florida Thunder.
