Edwards impressed at times during the Tests against England |
A hamstring injury has forced fast bowler Fidel Edwards out of the West Indies' one-day international cricket series in England. Edwards strained a hamstring in the second and final Test against Bangladesh which ended on Monday.
Jermaine Lawson, coming back from a long-term back injury, will replace Edwards in the 15-member squad.
Lawson played in the opening Test against Bangladesh before being dropped for the second match in Jamaica.
The West Indies depart on Sunday for England, where they meet the hosts and New Zealand in the NatWest Series from 24 June to 10 July.
The West Indies will name a separate squad for the four-Test series against England which follows the one-dayers.
Sammy
All-rounder Darren Sammy was the only newcomer in West Indies' original 15-man squad. The 20-year-old is the first St Lucian to be picked for the West Indies.
Sammy earned his call-up following an impressive 2004 season in the first-class Carib Beer regional series.
There ars no places for experienced fast bowlers Corey Collymore and Mervyn Dillon, who were both dropped after disappointing in limited-overs cricket against England in the Caribbean.
Batsman Sylvester Joseph, who was in the squad for both the England series and the three matches that followed against Bangladesh, also misses out.
West Indies squad: Brian Lara (captain), Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Powell, Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy, Ridley Jacobs, Carlton Baugh, Ian Bradshaw, Ravi Rampaul, Tino Best, Jermaine Lawson.
