The Muralitharan controversy refuses to die down |
Under fire Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has accused Australia and England for putting pressure on cricket authorities to outlaw his doosra. The delivery has been outlawed by the International Cricket Council following bio-mechanical tests.
But Murali, who holds the world record with 527 Test wickets, said he could live without the doosra.
He added: "This ban is because of pressure from Australia and England. There is no problem in Asia."
English umpire Chris Broad reported Murali after he used the doosra in the Test series against Australia earlier this year.
The 32-year-old said he had plenty of other types of delivery to hoodwink batsmen.
And he thanked the support he has been given from neighbouring Test-playing nations and fans after his action was criticised.
He added: "Even if they [ICC] insist, I don't mind, I can bowl several others."
Murali has the backing of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, who has threatened to sue the ICC for banning the delivery.
