Atapattu recorded his sixth Test double century |
Sri Lanka's Marvan Atapattu brushed aside suggestions he would chase the record Test score after an unbeaten 202 against Zimbabwe in the second Test. "Records are made to be broken and if it happens then it happens," said Atapattu, who was half-way to Brian Lara's record 400 at stumps on day two.
"The wicket is playing very well. It's good for batting and coming on to the bat very nicely."
"I had a lean period before this, so I need to make use of this opportunity."
Kumar Sangakkara, his partner in a massive second-wicket stand of 343 was please by an early left-off, when he was dropped in the covers third ball.
"I was already walking when he dropped it, but sometimes you need luck," said the wicket-keeper, who was 186 not out overnight.
"It's how you use the opportunity when it's presented to you that matters.
"I've been timing the ball well without converting my starts into big scores, so this is a good day for me."
